βοΈ Age-adjusted BMI
Body mass index with age-adapted interpretation.
β οΈ BMI doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat. Athletes can have high BMI without being obese. Consult a doctor for personalized evaluation.
How it works
BMI (Body Mass Index) = weight (kg) / heightΒ² (mΒ²). WHO categories: underweight <18.5, normal 18.5β24.9, overweight 25.0β29.9, obese β₯30. For older adults, the "normal" range is interpreted differently - a small fat reserve is beneficial.
Fun facts
- BMI was invented in 1832 by Adolphe Quetelet, a Belgian statistician - not a doctor.
- Two athletes with the same BMI can have completely different body compositions - that\'s why DEXA scans are more precise.
- Optimal heart rate for exercise - see Heart rate by age.
